This training will provide participants with an excellent foundational knowledge of documentation and case note reporting, specific to the helping and health care professions.  Covering the guiding principles of the Personal Health and Privacy Act (PHIPA), legal and ethical boundaries and responsibilities that govern documentation within Ontario.  Concepts such as subjective vs. objective writing, will be covered in this training as well.  Participants will have opportunities to view and sample a selection of case note writing styles and come away with writing tools to support them beyond this training.

Learning Objectives:

  • Achieve a basic understanding of PHIPA and other legal guiding principles
  • Review basic guidelines for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Examine, in general, legal and ethical issues in documentation.
  • Evaluate writing samples for accurate, complete, non-biased content.
  • This workshop is a technical writing workshop and does not directly address legal issues.
  • You must be prompt for the course – any time missed will result in certificate not being issued.
  • This training is interactive, all attendees are required to participate.
  • Upon successful completion, a certificate of attendance will be issued.
