The workshop will be divided into three forty-minute presentations – the nuts and bolts of landlord and tenant law; the challenges presented to tenants by the pandemic; and the changing procedural landscape on account of remote hearings and administrative backlogs. Topics covered will include the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants, the changes to landlord and tenant law with the passing of Bill 184, the fallout from the eviction moratorium, the challenges of remote hearings, and what to do if the hearing was not fair or the result was unjust.
Participation in the workshop should provide participants with a grasp of the key elements of the landlord and tenant relationship and provide information about how to assist tenants facing hearings at the Landlord and Tenant Board.
The workshop will be facilitated by Karen Andrews of the Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario. She has over twenty-five years of experience in landlord and tenant advocacy. She will be joined by other colleagues from ACTO and the Tenant Duty Counsel Program.
