Tenant and Landlord Law Advanced – Residential Tenancies Act
“This workshop will focus on advanced sections of the Residential Tenancies Act which affect landlord-tenant relations most. It will build upon the foundations laid in section #1. The facilitator will provide in –depth review of lease negotiation and common illegal provisions – as well as lease renewal, rent increases, and month-to-month tenancies. Eviction procedure will be studies in greater depth with a focus on the most common eviction reasons, ways that evictions can be prolonged and counter applications. Participants will also gain an understanding of the basic legal rights of residential tenants in terms of niches of Mortgage law, Federal Privacy law, and the most pertinent Municipal bylaws in the City of Toronto. The facilitator will deal with legal remedies available at both municipal and provincial levels and will focus most commonly on special resources available to tenants including the TSSA, Public health, etc. An important aspect of this workshop involves active questions from participants about the issues that affect them most. Printed material will also be distributed at the workshop.
- Becoming more familiar with the content of a lease agreement negotiations and legalities of provisions
- Becoming more familiar with eviction reasons, eviction prevention and eviction negotiation
- Increased knowledge of secondary laws that apply to tenants.
- Increasing knowledge of available tenant/landlord resources.
